The functions and beneficial effects of vitamin B3 (niacin/niacinamide)
A brief introduction. Vitamin B3 appears in two forms:
1. as niacin, also known as nicotinic acid
2. as niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide
The little word “amide” expresses the chemical difference between the two forms.
Which form of the active ingredient is contained in the Dr. Lenkei products?
- the Dr. Lenkei Vitality Multivitamins and the Dr. Lenkei B-Complex contain vitamin B3 in the form called niacinamide (nicotinamide).
- the Dr. Lenkei Niacin, as suggested by the name, contains niacin (nicotinic acid), without the little word “amide” at the end of the word.
The active ingredient content of the product is 100 mg of niacin per tablet.
Niacin and niacinamide have some of the beneficial effects in common and these are characteristic of both.
You should know, however, that niacin (nicotinic acid) has additional beneficial effects that do not occur when you consume niacinamide (nicotinamide), the other form of B3.
Niacin (nicotinic acid) is a more versatile and effective form.
But it is also more “unruly.” Sometimes it behaves like a disobedient foal.
Even when taken in doses as low as 100 milligrams, it can cause effects that may alarm – and often do alarm—inexperienced consumers. These unusual and, due to their unexpected nature, surprising effects are entirely harmless and, in fact, produce very good results at the end.
If we want to consume niacin, we have to be aware these would occur.
What effects can the more effective but “unruly” niacin (nicotinic acid) bring about?
- This is the reason why mild or even severe redness of the skin may appear, such as flushed face and other parts of the body.
- Burning, itchy redness may also come about in patches.
- This redness may be accompanied by a tingling sensation, a strange impression, reminding of ants swarming, shivers, or even a feeling of chills.
- Sometimes a fleeting feeling of fatigue or exhaustion will also occur, which will pass quickly.
- Some people have also reported short-term stomach and intestinal complaints.
Based on these symptoms, some thought these to be allergic reactions. But in fact, there is no need to worry. These are certainly not allergic reactions, rather the natural effects of niacin, also known as nicotinic acid! People, who are unfamiliar with the vitamin may mistake these signs for symptoms of an allergic reaction.
They can indeed be unpleasant and frightening, but they are natural and completely harmless. They usually disappear on their own after half an hour to an hour.
An interesting fact:
Skin redness and other signs do not always appear so pronounced. There may be days when taking niacin does not cause any such effects, there may be milder days with hardly any redness, while on other days “everything bursts into flames.” Symptom-free days, days with mild symptoms, and dramatic days may alternate with random frequency.
Since doctors and pharmacists, themselves, do not understand the phenomenon they are dealing with, they recommend using niacinamide, the less potent, “milder form” instead of niacin.
I have heard talk of a doctor who, due to his incompetence, classified the natural concomitant phenomenon of niacin consumption an allergic reaction.
Thus, instead of reassuring the frightened patient who came to see him because of this phenomenon, he frightened them even more.
You can find valuable information about the reasons behind the lack of knowledge about vitamins among doctors and pharmacists in my first book, entitled Censored Health.
Indeed, niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide, does not cause the side effects listed above,
but you should also be aware that choosing the milder form will not only make the redness disappear but some of the beneficial effects, too.
What can the unruly foal do? What can it do that niacinamide can not?
- It can significantly reduce LDL, commonly known as “bad cholesterol,” and increase HDL, commonly known as “good cholesterol.”
- It dilates blood vessels, thus lowering blood pressure.
- Under proper conditions, it also has a powerful detoxifying and radiological decontemination effect.
Please do not mistake my meaning!
I do not mean to give the impression that niacin should be taken as cholesterol or blood pressure medication. You will soon see that even niacin is unable to exert the entirety of its potential beneficial effects alone, taken out of the cooperative system of vitamins and minerals.
Therefore, there is no point in deluding ourselves that niacin alone will work as a panacea.
Detoxification and radiological decontemination?
Important!
Niacin only exerts its detoxifying and radiological decontemination effects to the fullest when in a special, very precisely structured system! If you would like to learn more about the conditions under which these beneficial effects occur, read the book Clear Body, Clear Mind that details the detoxification program developed by L. Ron Hubbard.
You should also be aware that the detoxification program detailed in the book can and should only be carried out under the supervision of qualified personnel.
On other issues:
Niacin can also be used on a daily basis. I take it every single day.
If you are not alarmed by the effects of the “unruly” niacin detailed earlier and would like to make it part of your daily vitamin intake, it is advisable to start with smaller doses. To start with, a quarter or half of a 100-milligram niacin tablet will do.
Now that you have seen the beneficial effects associated with and characteristic of niacin only, we can look at the beneficial effects both forms will produce.
The functions carried out by niacin and niacinamide and their beneficial effects
- They promote adequate energy production.
- Both forms are essential for the processing and utilization of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins taken in with the food.
- They support the balanced, harmonious functioning of the nervous system.
- They promote skin regeneration, improve the skin’s defenses, and have beneficial cosmetic effects
- Themselves being antioxidants, they protect the cells from oxidative stress and harmful free radicals, thus playing an important role in protecting our bodies.
- They support the repair of errors that occur in the DNA. They protect the integrity of the genetic material.
Neither form of the B3 vitamins is a lone warrior!
- Vitamins B1, B2, B6 and B9, iron, magnesium, calcium, and zinc.
If you like, you can take niacin with any Dr. Lenkei Vitality Multi product.
That’s what I do. Every single day.
